ST KATHERINE'S CHAPEL
Repeated acts of damage and theft of lead from St Katherine's roof in 2007/8 led to extensive water damage and the chapel was put out of use. Last year we were able to have it restored and was rededicated by the Rt Revd Martyn Jarrett, Bishop of Beverley on the 10th January 2010. A bequest left by the late Mary Chandler contributed to its refurbishment.
You may also have noticed that several trees, in close proximity to the church building, have been removed. There were several aims behind there removal such as potential damage to the building, make the building more visible so as to help prevent vandalism and make the church more visible in the community and to open the churchyard up to be more attractive and feel safer. There is other ongoing work to tidy up the graveyard. It is much improved.
Last year saw the appointment of Tim Schafer, the new manager of the Old Rectory. Many thanks to Anne Palmer, staff, volunteers and the Centre Management Team for making the Old Rectory into a viable organisation that seeks to serve the community. Tim's job includes advancing the aims of the Old Rectory. For more information visit www.orh.org.uk.
Projects for this year include seeking charity status for the Old Rectory; developing a healing ministry; as well as our outreach to the young and pastoral care of the bereaved; and, improving lighting to the chancel. At some point we would also like to have a toilet in church.
